Melanie

Educator, Pollinator Advocate, South Florida

I am an educator and advocate for pollinators, dedicated to helping children and families in South Florida understand their connection to the natural world. Through hands-on learning and storytelling, I teach about pollination, native species, and the important role each of us plays in protecting our local environment.

My greatest passion is caterpillars, tiny creatures that spark big curiosity, and I strive to help children see insects not with fear, but with fascination and respect.

Originally from England, my love of nature began early, inspired by my mother's curiosity about the world around us, especially insects. Before following this path, I spent 14 years as a flight attendant with Spirit Airlines, an experience that deepened my appreciation for people, places, and the diversity of life. Today, I bring that same sense of wonder into my work with children and families.

For the past two years, my daughter and I have been raising and protecting native butterflies and moths, helping to support and increase their populations. Together, we have created a thriving butterfly garden filled with pollinator and host plants, offering a safe space for these species to grow and flourish. This hands-on work is at the heart of what I teach, showing that even small actions can have a meaningful impact.

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
Jane Goodall

I believe that by nurturing curiosity and connection to nature, we can inspire the next generation to care for and protect the world around them.
